Before we went to Chicago, we stopped in Los Angeles for two days. We stayed in a Venice hotel with character, and saw some really excellent friends that we've missed. And we were able to visit the beach.
Predictably, Amiri thought it was awesome and frolicked in the Que Frio! water, delighting in letting the waves chase him up and down the beach. Arram is not in these photos because, also predictably, he was overwhelmed, wailing, and clinging barnacle-like to my hip.

It was AMAZING to see you! Flying Pig isn't the same without you?
Becca, it changed my life when you introduced me to my first duck taco!
That's right, people-who-aren't-Becca, I said Duck. Taco. Rich duck confit with tamarind sauce on a corn tortilla. There, admit it, your life changed a little just now too.
The best part is it's served in a little paper wrapper from a TRUCK. People stalk this mobile chef as he moves around town. Any given moment there will be a cluster of thirty people on the sidewalk around him. All doing that taco-tilt thing with their heads, and wiping the duck grease from their chins. And in my case maybe wiping a few tears of happiness that things like this actually EXIST in the world.
