Amiri's fan club

I took the boys for a tire-them-out walk to look at the boats this afternoon.  A group of tourists disembarked from a bus just in front of us.  They saw Amiri splashing around in the puddles and shrieked.  They immediately pulled out their cameras, squatted down for the best angle, and began snapping away.  Grandmothers pinching his cheeks and clucking at him.  Teenage girls tousling his hair and posing with him.  A couple telling me, 'He's so beautiful!  Never see so beautiful boy!'   There must have been twenty people descended on him in surreal, manic admiration.

(It occurred to me to check for pickpocketing because it was so unexpectedly intense; no worries, it was legit.)  And Amiri just ate it up, encouraging them... looking up at them through his eyelashes, making bashful smiles, then laughing.  We eventually said our goodbyes and continued on with our exercise while our new friends got a few more closeups of the little star walking away hand-in-hand with his mom.

Just wait until Arram is old enough and the brothers walk together on the boardwalk.  I hope the tourists won't hurt themselves in all the excitement.

I am just so much in a jealous TIFF! Why do these tourists get to hug my grandson, while I can only get a virtual hug! No fair! I am going to complain to the NZ Board of Touristry and demand, as my grandmotherly right, a free ticket to NZ every time a boatload of tourists arrive in Auckland to take photos of the city's main tourist attraction! It's only fair.....;-) (Picture this: Amiri walking down the pier holding his GRAMMIE's hand!)
